THE MEDICINE OF DREAMERS
By Nancy Dakota, Jan 2006
saw the Lizard bathed in crystal sand
Like the Navajo sand paintings.
I hang on my wall.
Only this time, I was the Lizard
The medicine of Dreamers,
Slithering amongst tomahawks
The ancient bones where
The ancestors once stood
Grandmother moon and Mother Earth
Still watching over Us and asking us to
Take heed, not to abandon
Those ancient bones
Not to forsake the
Footprints of mocassins
Embedded in the sacred burial ground.
Wahoh! Wahee! Waheela!
The old chanting is pounding
In my ears though the words are
Not recognizeable to me…
In this life
It doesn't matter,
The words resonate through my heart,
My whole being remembers--
That is enough!!
